Mobility Awards

5 scholarships will provide funding for existing Imperial College staff and students to study or undertake research in Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay or Venezuela in 2010-11.

Applications will be judged on the basis of academic merit and personal statement about the value of the trip to your research. Applications should be made for an individual (not a group) to conduct specific research that would not necessarily receive financial support from elsewhere. Priority will be given to applicants looking to further their links with named institutions and or other researchers in that country; applications with a specific time frame and budget in mind will also be given priority.

1. African Graduate Scholarships:

The scholarships exist to support African nationals with a high-quality academic and professional background who wish to further develop their skills and knowledge in their specific field. The Scholarship is a one-off award for the academic year September-September.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • The candidate must be an African national and a permanent resident of an African nation.
  • The candidate must have made an application to UCL to study for a full-time postgraduate programme at the Centre for International Health and Development for the coming academic year.
  • The scheme offers a substantial scholarship towards UCL tuition fees and some living costs. Therefore, the candidate must arrange for and obtain additional funding for their subsistance cost while livig in the UK. The candidate must also be able to provide evidence that he/she has secured other sources of funding for travel and living costs.
  • Applications must be received at CIHD by the specified deadline (for the academic year 2010-11)

2. CIHD Virtual Scholarship:

CIHD offers a limited number of partial scholarships of £1,500 for MSc applicants from overseas and £1,000 for PG Diploma applicants from overseas. These scholarships are paid towards tuition fees only and are not awarded for living/subsistence costs.

Eligibility: Available to suitably qualified applicants who have been given and have accepted an unconditional offer from UCL but are having some difficulty in obtaining full scholarships.

World Bank Scholarship Program 2010

Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program

In 1987, the World Bank, with funding from the Government of Japan, established the World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (WBGSP) for graduate studies in subjects related to economic development. Each year, the Program awards scholarships to individuals from World Bank member countries to undertake graduate studies at renowned universities throughout member countries of the Bank.

Now in its 23d year, the Regular Program has awarded 3,153 scholarships, selected from 58,944 applicants. In addition, 1,226 scholarships have been awarded in the various JJ/WBGSP Partnership Programs for a total of 4,379 awards.

The objective of the Scholarship and Fellowship Programs is to help create an international community of highly-trained professionals working in the field of economic and social development. The community will actively participate in the capacity building efforts in the developing countries.

Eligibility

To apply for a JJ/WBGSP scholarship under the Regular Program, an applicant must:

* Be a national of a World Bank member country eligible to borrow.
* Be born after March 31, 1970.
* Have, by March 31, 2010, at least 2, preferably 4 to 5, years of recent full time professional experience acquired after a university degree, in the applicant’s home country or in another developing country.
* Hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.
* Be in good health.
* Be of good character.
* Not be a permanent resident or a national of any industrialized country.
* Not be residing in an industrialized country for more than one year.
* Not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, staff of the World Bank Group (the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, International Development Association, Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, and International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes), consultant, or relative of the aforementioned.

UK: The University of the Arts London International Graduate Scholarships

Overview


The University of the Arts London International Graduate Scholarships aim to promote postgraduate study at each of the six Colleges of University of the Arts London. These awards will be offered to international students (this excludes EU students) with the ability and potential to make an exceptional contribution to the worlds of art, design, communication and performance. We encourage applications from those who feel they will benefit from further study to realise their full potential.

The International Graduate Scholarships are only applicable to sucessful applicants in the 2010/2011 academic year. The scholarships will be awarded to carefully selected students accepted to study on one of the designated MA programmes at the University of the Arts London, for enrolment in academic year 2010/2011. Further conditions are detailed below:

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for a University of the Arts London International Graduate Scholarship, applicants must be:

- accepted for a full-time MA from the designated list, at one of the six Colleges of University of the Arts London.
- AND be an undergraduate student expecting to graduate with a good bachelors degree (with Honours) from a Higher Education institution by 31 July 2010.
- OR be a graduate, having already gained a good bachelors degree from a Higher Education institution
- OR (for applicants without a bachelors degree) be able to demonstrate substantial equivalent and applicable experience.

Terms of the Scholarships

Each International Graduate Scholarship is worth the tuition fees of the selected course. Tuition fees will be paid directly to the University. Successful candidates must bring their award letter to enrolment.

Applicants must enrol on their programme in the same academic year for which they have applied for funding. If any applicant is unable to do this for any reason, the scholarship will be withdrawn.


Requirements of Scholarship Holders

Scholarship holders are expected to attend all timetabled classes and tutorials, excepting periods of absence due to illness. Attendance will be monitored and any student with an unacceptable attendance record risks termination of their Scholarship.

Award holders are expected to attend a small number of College and University events where scholarship support to potential donors will be promoted. Such events may occur during and/or after completion of the award holder’s course. The University will terminate the award if registration lapses on any grounds, other than temporary suspension of study due to extenuating circumstances. These circumstances must be drawn to the attention of the relevant course director through formal procedures and upheld by the College Extenuating Circumstances Panel.

Applying for a Scholarship

The applicaton form can be downloaded from the University’s website. Please note that students on programmes with portfolio requirements must also provide a copy of their portfolio with the application form. We realize you may have already submitted a portfolio with your course application however as these portfolios are often returned to students or destroyed, we will require you to submit a new one. We will only accept portfolios in CD Rom format or via a weblink if you have a website.

The number of applications we receive for these Scholarships far exceed availability and therefore many applicants will be unsuccessful. It is extremely important that your application form is fully and accurately completed and submitted on time as we will not accept late or incomplete applications.

For courses starting in September/October 2010, your completed application must be received by email, fax or post by 14 June 2010 at 5:00pm GMT.

For courses starting in January 2011, your completed application form must be received by email, fax or post by 27 September 2010 at 5:00pm GMT.

If you are graduating this academic year, your degree results will be checked independently by the University.

Scholarship for Ghanians in Milan Italy

Applications are now open for postgraduate scholarships for the following Master’s programs, which are fully taught in English and offered at UCSC’s Campus in Milan, Italy

  • One year Master of International Relations.
  • One year International MBA (Global Business and Sustainability).
  • Two years Master in Trade and Risk Management.

    The scholarship consists of a tuition fee waiver and free accommodation at UCSC student apartments.

    Students will be responsible for their own international travel to/from Italy as well as for their other living expenses (€350/= month).

    Ten scholarships are available for applicants from Ghana/Kenya/Uganda/Zambia.

    Admission requirements include completion of at least a Bachelor Degree from a recognized university and IETS 6.0 or equivalent if English is not the official language in your country.

    Eastern Africa Training School on Law

    The Human Rights and Peace Centre (HURIPEC) of Makerere University, Uganda is organizing the first Eastern Africa Training School on Law, Human Rights and HIV /AIDS in Kampala, Uganda.

    Funded by OSIEA, the two-week training school to build the capacity of African lawyers in the technical and judicial aspects of Law, Human Rights and HIV /AIDS and to introduce selected participants to the various medical, public health, political and social-cultural nuances that are at play in this growing area of jurisprudence.

    The main objective of the program is to create a cadre of legal practitioners fully equipped with basic skills in Law, Human Rights and HIV / AIDS in order to promote greater policy attention, scholarship and activism.

    Successful Participants will be given support for tuition fees,travel, accommodation, seminar materials and lunch/tea breaks during training.

    Eligibility

    Participants from this programme will be from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda with working experience and/or professional experience relevant to the theme of Law, Human Rights and HIV / AIDS. In addition, a sound knowledge of English language is required.

    The University of Sheffield does not offer research studentships or funding specifically for Nigerian students. There are, however, studentships and funding for which all international students can apply.


    MTN Nigeria Foundation Scholarship


    The MTN Nigeria Foundation will provide financial

    support to 500 eligible Science & Technology students

    in accredited education public universities, polytechnics

    and colleges of education across the six geo-political

    zones in Nigeria which will cover tuition, book allo-

    wance and stipend (pocket allowance). The scholarship

    award is N200,000.00 (Two hundred Thousand Naira

    only per student per academic session and will be paid

    at the beginning of the 2009/2010 academic session.

    The scholarships will be awarded to 200 level/2nd year

    full time students in universities, polytechnics and coll-

    eges of education.

    ELIGIBILITY

    Candidates must be full time undergraduates in

    200 level / 2nd year in public universities, colleges

    of education as well as polytechnics in Nigeria.

    Applicants from universities and colleges of

    education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade

    Point Average (CGPA) score of 3.5 or its equivalent

    (2.1), while applicants from polytechnics must have

    a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (upper

    credit) and currently undergoing industrial training.

    Shortlisted candidates will be required to come with

    the original and photocopy of the following documents

    for screening prior to taking the assessment Test:

    2 passport photographs

    Valid student identity card

    Duly signed transcript from head of department

    Admission letter from JAMB and Institution

    A letter of recommendation, duly signed and stamped

    from Faculty Head/Director of School/Dean of School.

    GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

    Incomplete applications will be disregarded and

    cancelled

    Upon receipt of applications from interested students,

    MTNF shall evaluate and shortlist qualifying students

    who will be subsequently invited for an assessment

    exercise.

    Names of successful candidates will be published in

    National dailies and on the MTN Foundation Schol-

    arship website

    Bursaries will be allocated on a yet to be announced

    date to successful candidates, students are however

    advised to visit the MTN Foundation Scholarship

    website for more information.
